Chapter 66 - The future is hope, guys.

With a burst of blue light, Mechanicus and General Majesty appeared in the exact same spot that they had disappeared from. This meant that they were still falling through the air from the Observation Deck to the rocky ground below. However, Fort Majesty had long since collapsed and settled and so their fall was a short and neat one.
“Did you just see… what happened, Mechanicus?” said General Majesty, flustered. Mechanicus flipped shut the hatch on his wrist, allowed his cybernetic eye to cool to a soothing shade of blue, straightened his cape and said, “I had my ship jump us exactly three years into the future. The danger has passed. We should rebuilt Fort Majesty immediately.”

General Majesty looked around at the inert rubble around him. The final wave from the forest had torn through the lower levels of the fortress and had brought the whole of the North Wing down upon them. A third of the fortress still stood, but its insides had been picked clean by thieves and was now home to hundreds of refugee birds. General Majesty had heard about the redemption of the bird races at the massive party in Jerusalem. The King had told him about it on the Magic Telephone and assured him that everyone was being nice to birds from now on. Even so, he felt a great wave of distrust and violence pass over him when he saw that he was surrounded by the beasts. Rebuilding was possible, he conceded, since Mechanicus was so clever, but it would only be so with the appropriate manpower.
“We need to assemble a new engineering corps,” said General Majesty, nodding slowly. “And a new army, while we’re out recruiting. It will not be easy.”
“My ship will take us back to Europe’s Capital City.” Said Mechanicus, matter-of-factly.
They were interrupted just then by a spooky television screen flying up to their faces. On the television screen was the face of none other than Terrorthaw. His cybernetic implants were spikier and his face was older and more scary than before, but it was unmistakably him.
“General Majesty! Mechanicus! My good old friends!” laughed Terrorthaw’s face. “Good to see that your trip through time went well!” Mechanicus went for his wrist machine, but Terrorthaw just laughed as he pressed blippy buttons and tried to signal his ship. “It won’t work, Mechani-chump! My instruments detected your time-jump three years ago. I’ve been waiting for you to reappear so that I could locate your wonderful future-ship. Your signals are blocked and I am on my way to intercept it. So long, Adventure Fools!” Terrorthaw’s laugh faded as the television screen zoomed off into the sky. Mechanicus looked at General Majesty.
“He won’t get far. The Future Folk kicked him out of my time before, and he’s no match for the Future version of the King.” He said, quickly. General Majesty rubbed his chinguard thoughtfully.
“That’s assuming that he’s headed for the future…” he said. Mechanicus fell silent. They hugged. They had been through a lot. The hug was soothing and it gave them a chance to figure out what to do next. They were still hugging when the phone rang. General Majesty just about shouted with surprise. He yanked the Magic Telephone out of his armour, pulled out the aerial and pressed the green button in one frantic scramble.
“Hello?!” he said, too loudly.
“It’s the King.” Said the King.
Majesty: “Your Highness! How are you?”
KING: “Bad. I had the worst night last night”

There was a pause.

KING: “The worst.”
